Bank of Spain 'forgets' that the directive on basic payment accounts includes the right to withdraw money at branches

FACUA-Consumers in Action denounces the Bank of Spain’s (BdE) refusal to fine CaixaBank for violating legislation on basic payment accounts, which are free for low-income consumers, while the Ministry of Consumer Affairs has ignored the matter by failing to respond to a complaint filed by the association 15 months ago.

The BdE has issued a resolution in which it states that the regulations governing these accounts do not oblige banks to facilitate cash withdrawals at the counter, despite the fact that both the European directive and the royal decree-law transposing it clearly and unequivocally establish this duty.
