FACUA denounces airlines Wizz Air, Transavia and Eurowings for illegal charges for hand luggage

The association has carried out an analysis of the practices of 19 airlines. Seven of them apply surcharges for hand luggage. Alongside the airlines that have now been denounced are the four airlines fined more than 150 million euros by the Secretary General for Consumer Affairs.

FACUA-Consumers in Action has reported the airlines Wizz Air, Transavia and Eurowings to the Directorate General for Consumer Affairs of the Ministry of Social Rights, Consumer Affairs and Agenda 2030 for imposing the selection of fares with surcharges in order to travel with hand luggage or applying extra charges if they are not contracted.

The association has carried out an analysis of the practices of 19 airlines operating in Spain and seven of them apply these illegal surcharges. The other four are Ryanair, Vueling, EasyJet and Volotea, which have just been fined more than 150 million by the ministry’s General Secretariat for Consumer Affairs following complaints that FACUA has been raising since 2018.
